Men examine the flood eroded dirt streets in this 5" x 3-1/4" black and white photograph showing some of the aftermath of the March 1912 flood of the Elkhorn and Platte Rivers in Valley, Nebraska. Eddy Bros. General Merchandise store stands on the corner of Spruce and Front Streets at the right. The building behind the store is a hotel and restaurant.
This was Valley's fourth flood. The water was channeled by ice jams and submerged the town under three to four feet of water. Damage from the flood waters left behind ruined streets and property.
