Mons Johnson's son Luther stands by a counter in the center of this 6-3/4" x 4-1/4" black and white photograph showing the inside of the store located on the east side of Spruce Street. At the right front, a display of padlocks sits on top of ice boxes with wood stoves lining the aisle behind. On the left are storage drawers and display cases and shelves contain merchandise including shotguns, oil cans and silverware. A single row of lights runs down the center of the pressed tin ceiling and a wooden floor runs the length of the store.
Mons Johnson and Fred Clark bought the business before 1912. Hardware and appliances were sold on the first floor. The second floor originally housed a funeral home where coffins were advertised for sale. This building now houses Wendy Deane's "Gallery.
