Description
A man sits in a one-seat vehicle with a metal body and metal wheels parked at the curb on a brick street in front of Payne & Woodard Machine Company at 247 S. 9th Street, Lincoln, Nebraska. Four men stand in the double wide door of the brick building over which a sign reads: "Automobile Repairs." A small child stands on the sidewalk behind the vehicle. The building at the far left edge of the image is Lincoln Paint & Color Company at 81-823 M Street, and beyond it is H.O. Barber & Sons Elevator Feed Mill at 805 M Street.
According to Polk's City Directory of Lincoln, 1914, Payne & Woodard Machine Co. was owned by Walter S. Payne and Maynard H. Woodard, machinists, who did general machine repairing and acetylene welding. This photograph was taken for M.H. Miller.
