This photograph shows the Lincoln Hotel, a multi-storied stone building on the southwest corner of 9th and P Streets. Canopies cover the front and side entrances with balconies above. Painted on the side of the front canopy: "The Lincoln, $2 per day and upwards." A stagecoach drawn by two horses sits out front. Behind the hotel at the right is A. Booth and Company at 821 P Street, then Gillen & Boney and, across the street, Grainger Brothers on the southwest corner of 8th and P Streets.
According to Hoye's City Directory of Lincoln, 1899, Austin Humphrey was manager of the Lincoln Hotel; Edward Vanderpool managed A. Booth and Company, a wholesaler of oysters and fish; Frank E. Gillen and William H. Boney were the wholesale confectioners/owners of Gillen & Boney; and Harry B. and Joseph Grainger were the grocers of Grainger Brothers.
