A spring view of St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska; some trees are blooming and others are in various stages of sprouting leaves. Located at 1103 South Street, on the southeast corner of S. 11th and South Streets, the hospital consists of the original three-story brick building and a clapboard annex added to the side at the rear. Two nuns stand and a man sits in a chair on the main entrance porch.
In 1889, the Sisters of St. Francis purchased the Buckstaff mansion for use as Lincoln's first general hospital. The hospital remained on this site until 1970 with 265 beds until the new St. Elizabeth Community Health Center was built at 70th and J Streets.
