Interior view of a Lincoln Fire Department building housing wagons. Harnesses suspended from the ceiling are also hooked up to two wagons so that horses can be quickly hitched up. "Chemical No. 4" is stenciled across the front of the wagon to the right which has firefighters' garment and helmets piled on the seat and a hose on a large reel in the back. A horse stands at the rear of the building on the left. The floor is paved with brick and the left wall lined with windows.
According to Hoye's City Directory of Lincoln for 1900, Horace Clement was the fire chief of Lincoln, Nebraska. Given the markings on one of the wagons, it is possible this building was at the northwest corner of 10th and Q Streets. The headquarters for Lincoln Fire Department, this station housed Engine No. 1, Hose Company No. 1, Chemical Engine No. 4, Hook and Ladder Company No. 1, and Steamer Company No. 10.
