Fifteen sportsmen founded the Omaha Rod & Gun Club in 1905 on what was then named Cut-Off Lake and also known as Lake Nakoma. Private clubs built bungalows and docks for various types of watercraft. The lake was renamed Carter Lake in July 1906. The 303.51 acre park was donated to the City of Omaha in 1908 and renamed Levi Carter Park, also known as Carter Lake Park. Source: Wakeley, Arthur.
