This 3.5" x 5.5" photographic postcard shows the exterior of the George and Margaret Wolz residence, located at 444 East Military Avenue in Fremont, Nebraska. Traces of the Shingle architectural style are seen here and include the shingles on the wavy gable surface, the surface itself, the three sided dormer window at the gable, and the multi-paned upper window sash. Other examples of this style include the wide, expansive porch, the plain railing, and the classical columns which support the roof. The molded concrete blocks are serving in lieu of the more commonly used shingles or stone for Shingle style architecture. The home's entrance is symmetrically placed and is flanked on either side by large windows. Hanging flower baskets add to the balanced appearance. A concrete sidewalk leads to the broad wooden steps at the front of the home. The color scheme used for painting the structure involves at least three colors if not four. The house is of cross-gable construction and has a wood shingled roof. Bushes and flowers ornament the lawn, and the house is surrounded by well established trees. A barn is located immediately behind the house, and other structures in the neighborhood are also visible.
