This porch is located off of the dining room at Westfield Acres, the residence of Frank and Jessie Fowler, located at 1217 North Nye Avenue in Fremont, Nebraska. An oak Mission style porch swing is suspended from the ceiling by chains. Its appearance has been rendered more inviting by the addition of an upholstered seat cushion and throw pillows. Two rockers, also Mission style, with woven seats, provide additional seating. A circular oriental fan has been placed conveniently in the ceramic wall pocket attached to the brick wall. The wind chime which hangs from the ceiling is also oriental. A modest incandescent light fixture, with slag glass panels, is mounted on the ceiling. The porch ceiling itself partially rests on white Ionic columns which are linked by low white balustrades. The porch floor is of masonry construction. The window and the door to the dining room are tightly fitted with fly screens. A fluted rain pipe is seen in the porch corner and is blended with the walls by the use of appropriate paint colors.
The 16-acre property at 1217 Nye Avenue in Fremont, Nebraska, was purchased by Frank Fowler from Edward Blewett in 1903. The former Blewett residence was drastically remodeled into a 32-room mansion, while the surrounding grounds were transformed to include the stable, a poultry house, and a gardener's residence. The architect secured for the major building project was Alfred C. Clas of Ferry and Clas, architects of the 1893 World's Fair. The estate was razed in 1958.
