A four-story limestone building stands on a corner in this 6-1/2" x 4-1/2" black and white photograph. On the street level, there are many retail businesses, most prominently the S. Samuels Clothes Shop, while the upper floors house offices. A building with "Hotel Capital" painted on the side is visible in the background. Several automobiles are parked on the street. "Little Bldg." is written on the photograph.
The Little Block at 113 North 11th Street in Lincoln was designed by Fiske & Dieman in 1907. Originally the building had retail space on the first floor and four upper stories of offices. A remodeling in 1936 for Lincoln Liberty Life Insurance Company added a sixth story with Art Deco style limestone decoration, designed by architects Meginnis & Schaumbert, who had partnered with F. C. Fiske in the mid-1920's. The building still stands at 11th and O Streets in Lincoln as the LES Building. The property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The taller Hotel Capital in the background was built in 1925-26 from designs by H. L. Stevens & Company, Chicago architects and engineers. The sign high on its wall advertises "Rates $2.50 Down." The YMCA later offered lodging in the building, which was converted in the 1980's into the Georgian Place condominium apartments on the upper floors, and the Lincoln Y's downtown office and fitness center on the ground floor and in a west addition. The Hotel Capital is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
