The boiler shop, a long, two-story brick building, runs the length of this 5 1/4" x 3 1/4" photographic postcard. The building's roof has two gables and gives the appearance of two buildings next to each other. There are two doors at one end of the building and many windows on both levels. A long porch with a ramp leading up to it runs along one side of the building. Many wheels for train engines sit on the ground outside the building, along with piles of other parts for the manufacture of the engines. A smokestack and a portion of the brass foundry can be seen on the right of the photograph.
According to a map in the American Engineer and Railroad Journal, January 1911, the boiler shop was 130 feet, 4-1/2 inches wide and 400 feet, 5-3/4 inches long.
