A 4"x6" nitrate negative, photograph of the exterior of St. Luke's United Methodist Church, David City, Nebraska. The 2 1/2 story Greek Revival structure with stone foundation and light-colored brick exterior, with numerous stained glass windows, four large, round columns in front, wide center entry steps leading to a covered portico with three double-entry doors is topped with a large dome and cross on a corner lot with bushes, trees and lawn with sidewalks and brick streets on two sides, an automobile parked on the lawn to one side.

Historical Notes
History shows that the Methodist church was established in Butler County in 1871. In 1874, subscriptions were taken for the first church. In 1875, Reverend A.J. Combs was hired as the first pastor. In 1884, a new brick church was incorporated but was destroyed by a tornado in 1887. It was rebuilt in 1889 but destroyed by fire in 1910. The building in this photograph, St. Luke's United Methodist Church, was built and dedicated May 7, 1911.
