August Herms was born in Germany, September 1856, the son of Johann and Henriette Guenther Herms. He married Louise Ann Schliesser. Louise was born in Germany, July 1857. Their son, August, was born May 26, 1884, in Germany as well as two daughters: Emma, born in May 1881, and Anna, born in August 1887. August and Louise, along with their three oldest children, immigrated to the United States in 1893 and settled in rural Butler County, Nebraska, where August was a farmer. Their two youngest children were born in Butler County: Bertha, born in 1896, and Ida, born in 1899. August, Sr., died August 28, 1902 and Louise died, May 1, 1907. They are both buried in the Ware Cemetery, in rural Butler County. August, Jr., was nine years old when he immigrated with his parents. He married Francis Plisek, January 12, 1909 at Holy Trinity Church in Brainard, Nebraska. They lived and farmed near Brainard, where they raised four sons. He died January 28, 1960, and is buried in Dwight Catholic Cemetery. Emma Herms married Frederick Meissner. They farmed in Oklahoma and raised five children. Bertha Herms was born in Bruno, Nebraska, November 14, 1895. She marrried James J. Prochaska, February 14, 1916, at Holy Trinity Church in Brainard. James and Bertha farmed and raised five children. Bertha died February 15, 1976, at St. Joseph's Villa, David City, Nebraska, and is buried in St. Mary's Cemetery. Ida Herms was born in Nebraska, December 1898. She married Thomas Jones, June 1, 1921, in David City. Ida and Thomas moved to Missouri where they farmed and raised three children. |
