This is the illustrated cover of a pamphlet written by Pastor Erik Alfred Fogelstrom to solicit funds to build the Immanuel Hospital and Deaconess Institute in Omaha, Nebraska. The cover shows a drawing of Immanuel Hospital. The text on the cover reads, "Evangelical deaconess work, the great need of America. The Immanuel Hospital and Deaconess Institute. An appeal to philanthropic and patriotic Americans. By a Christian patriot.

Historical Notes
The 22-page pamphlet includes a letter from Pastor Fogelstrom detailing the need for charity work, a brief history of deaconesses, the type of women who are deaconesses, a brief history of his life, and the costs for construction of the buildings. In the book, Pastor Fogelstrom talks about The Evangelical Immanuel Association for Works of Mercy organization, founded in January 1889, being the society to hold the property. Members of the society included: Dr. George L. Miller (Former Editor of the Omaha Daily Herald, Manager of the New York Life Insurance Company and President of the Park Commission), Fred Drexel (Capitalist), Alfred Millard (Cashier Commercial National Bank and member of the Park Commission), William L. McCague (McCague Brothers, Bankers), Gunnar A. Lindquist (Wholesale Merchant), John Johnson (Capitalist), Peter Colseth (Real Estate Dealer), Anthony Johnson (Real Estate Dealer), Rev. A. M. Anderson (President Trinity Seminary, Blair, NE) and E. A. Fogelstrom (Manager & Treasurer of the Corporation). The hospital was incorporated in 1887 and opened in 1890.
