Sister Irene Danielson, Sister Olive Cullenberg, and Sister Ingeborg Blomberg
Description
This black and white photograph shows three of the nursing staff of Immanuel Hospital, Omaha, Nebraska. The back of the photograph says that this photograph was used in the School of Nursing 1954 Yearbook. Starting from the left, the women are Sister Irene Danielson, Director of Nursing Services, Sister Olive Cullenberg, Hospital Administrator, and Sister Ingeborg Blomberg, Assistant Director. All three women are wearing glasses, and have on white deaconess nurses' caps and uniforms. There are nurses' pins on their uniform lapels, and cross pendants around each of their necks. A watch can be seen on Sister Blomberg's left wrist. All three women are looking at a set of blueprints, placed upon a desk, for the hospital's west wing. A black phone and ink pen set can be seen on the desk.
Original format: black and white photograph, 9 1/2 x 7 1/4 inches.
Historical Notes
Planning began for the expansion of the hospital in 1952. After settling the costs and going from a six floor structure to a four floor structure (with a plan to add additional floors when funding permitted), ground breaking for work on the first $683,616 in contracts took place on March 23, 1955. More money came in later that fall. The four floors were moved into bit by bit in the latter half of 1956 and early 1957 as more and more room became available. Finally, on January 20, 1957, at a cost of $1,700,000, the building was dedicated in Bloom Hall ceremonies with the Rev. Dr. Oscar A. Benson, Augustana Synod President officiating.
