A family of twelve poses in front of a brick house in this 7" x 11" black and white portrait photograph. The father and mother, Bernard Soester and Dora Holtcamp Soester, are sitting in chairs. Twin girls sit between them on a chair with a quilt draped over it, and the rest of their children (six boys and two girls) stand around them.
The Soesters lived in the Squaw Mound community in Dawes County, Nebraska. Their brick farmhouse was one of six built by a Dutch bricklayer in the Squaw Mound area in the late 1800s. Two of the buildings still stand.
