Henry is wearing a dark, long-sleeve dress with three rows of white trim on the sleeve cuffs, outlining the square neck bodice insert and around the high stand collar of the matching under blouse, a row of white buttons on the bodice front with button, high-top shoes and a white slip showing at the hemline on one side. Maggie is wearing a dark, long-sleeve dress with scoop neck bodice outlined with a wide scalloped collar decorated with two fabric rosettes and plaid under blouse with high-stand collar. Historical NotesClaus Martens was born in Germany, April, 1870, to John & Margarette Boesch Martin. He immigrated to the U.S. in the early 1890's and soon married Margaretta Reese. Margaretta was born in Germany in September, 1868 and immigrated to the U.S. in the early 1890's. Claus and Margaretta raised five children: Maggie (b. October 1892), Charles (b. July 24, 1894), John (b. September 1896), Jacob (b. November 1898) and Henry (b. 1900), on their family farm. Records indicate that Margaretta "Maggie", wife of Claus, married John Hoeft in Millerton, Butler County, Nebraska, December 12, 1908, and helped raise his two daughters. The oldest daughter, Maggie, married Henry Buck who was a farmer near Ulysses, Nebraska. Charles was born near Gresham, Nebraska. He married Ida Iwan and served in the U.S. Army, September, 1917 to May, 1919. He died March 18, 1958. As adults, John Martens lived in Seward, Jacob lived in Lincoln. Henry Martens was born in Millerton, Nebraska, in 1900, and attended District #49 school. He remained single and spent his life farming near Rising City, Nebraska.
