Three wooden buildings, one with a false front, stand next to each other on a dirt road in this 4.5" x 3" black and white photograph. The building on the left has a sign that reads "Farmer's Store." Several men stand on the street, along with a few horses hitched to wagons.
Sacramento, Nebraska (Phelps County) was a flourishing village of about 200. R. S. Black's team and wagon are shown between the general store and the implement office. Albert Person, a resident of Sacramento, had taken an electrical course in school. With a gasoline engine and a 110-volt generator, he started a light plant that powered his home, his business, and one street light. Thus, Sacramento gained national recognition as the smallest town in the country with electric lights and its own light plant.
