Omaha's old City Hall, also known as the “Old Red Castle” was constructed at 18th & Farnam Streets in 1890 for $550,000. Its castle-like appearance included a clock tower, steepled roof and gargoyles. The interior included an elaborate Victorian Council Chamber with chandeliers, ceiling frescoes, wall murals and oak paneling. The soft red sandstone exterior could not withstand the elements and was torn down in 1966 to make way for the Woodmen Tower. Source: Omaha Public Library Omaha History Clipping File- City Halls.
