Black and white postcard (14 x 9 cm.) with an exterior view of Benson High School, located at 63rd and Maple in the Benson neighborhood of Omaha, Nebraska. This is a large wood frame structure, two stories high, with a bell tower. The title "High School - Benson - Nebr, (Tindells News Stand)" is hand written in white at the bottom of the card.
Benson, Nebraska, began with the purchase of 900 acres in 1887 by Erastus Benson. Ground was dedicated for a school and the first building was erected in 1891. The first high school classes were held at the old Benson Central Grade School. Fire gutted the school in 1910. Classes were moved to Benson West, 66th & Maple Streets, the following year. A new high school was built in 1926 for more than $600,000 at 5120 Maple Street. Old Benson High was torn down in 1927. Source: Omaha Public Library History Clipping File- High Schools, Public-Benson.
