Color postcard (14 x 9 cm.) with a view of a lagoon in Kountze Park. Several buildings are visible across the lagoon in the upper right corner of the image. Kountze Park is located between 19th, 21st, Pinkney, and Pratt Streets in Omaha, Nebraska.
The Kountze family donated the park to the city of Omaha in 1897. The property was bordered by 19th & 20th Streets on the east and west as well as Pinkney and Pratt Streets on the north and south. Kountze Park was the site of the 1898 Trans-Mississippi and International Exposition. At that time, the Grand Lagoon was nearly 1/2 mile long. The scenic pond is its remnant. The pond was filled with dirt in 1953. Source: Omaha Public Library History Clipping File- Parks-Kountze Park.
