Silver anniversary, H. Herpolsheimer Co., Lincoln, Nebraska
Description
In this nighttime black-and-white photograph, lights outline the architectural details of the H. Herpolsheimer Co. department store and illuminate the display windows. The 5-1/2" x 3-1/2" postcard celebrating the 25th anniversary of the building includes glitter along each horizontal line and the roofline details.
Opened in 1890, Henry Herpolsheimer built this department store ten years after arriving in Lincoln. The facilities included electric generators, and its was nicknamed "The Daylight Store" for its lighting and large display windows. The store closed in May 1931: a victim of the Great Depression. The building was mostly torn down in the late 1930s.
