Historical Notes
New equipment installed in the power plant in 1916 included the Westinghouse switchboard, Murray type 250 horse power water tube boilers with Jones stokers, 125 KW Skinner make Uniflow Engines, and various other motors. In addition to steam heat and hot water, the power plant provided electricity to the Penitentiary's shops, ice plant, water pumps and laundry as well as to the Governor's Mansion, Nebraska Hospital for the Insane, Orthopedic Hospital, Capitol Building and grounds, and the Nebraska Home for Dependent Children.
