Historical Notes
Established in 1885, the Industrial Home served as a state-run home for unwed mothers. Some girls chose to go there, others were sent by the courts or their families. Residence of one year was usually required. Schooling was provided along with training in housework, laundry, cooking, canning, sewing, etc. During the 1913-1914 biennium, admissions included 96 young women, mostly between the ages of 14 and 25 years. Further statistics and information can be found in the report.
