Four girls are sitting at a table in a classroom, hand-sewing garments, in this 8" x 6" black and white photograph. The table that they are working at is covered with blankets made of knitted squares sewn together. There are garments hanging along the wall and also piled on tables behind the girls.
Bancroft School was Lincoln's first modern elementary school building. At the time of this photograph, the school was located at 1420 U Street, where it operated from 1916 to 1964. Previously, the school had been located at 9th & T Streets, from 1881 to 1915. Because of its location on the university campus, Bancroft also served as a laboratory school.
