This 7.5" x 9.5" photograph shows the formal dining room at The Elms, the home of Ray and Anna Nye at 1635 North Nye Avenue in Fremont, Nebraska. The scene also shows glimpses of the adjoining sun room with its enameled, colonial reproduction furnishings and the smaller private dining room which matches the larger formal room. The interior trim in the dining rooms is mahogany and includes ceiling beams, crown moldings with dentiled detailing, paneled walls, classical style round columns, as well as French doors with matching windows on either side. The furnishings in the dining rooms are also mahogany and include round dining tables, oversized chairs upholstered with leather, a side table which holds a lazy susan, and a one drawer server. The large two door china cabinet has a mirrored back and appears to be lighted. Fringed, oriental carpets are used as floor coverings in all three rooms. Decorative objects seen are a cut glass rose bowl on a square Battenberg table cloth, an art glass vase, and a pair of bisque or parian statues. The china cabinet is filled with cut glass bowls, tumblers, and assorted serving pieces. Artificial lighting is supplied by a central ceiling fixture with slag glass panels and beaded fringe as well as by perimeter lights with numerous matching shades mounted at the ceiling. Wall sconces can be seen in the small dining room.
