A 3"x4" glass plate negatives, bust portrait photograph of Mrs. Mary Eiting, David City, Nebraska, wearing a dark dress with belted waist, gathered sleeves with cuffs at the wrists and over-sleeve of self fabric edged with damask trim at hemline and loops of damask trim at the top of the deep slits, loosely pleated bodice with square-necked bodice insert of narrow rows of shirred fabric outlined with a row of damask trim and loops of trim at each corner, stand collar of plaid fabric with white trim and white fabric ruffle at the top and a dark hat with flat brim, covered with shirred fabric and a plaid bow.

Historical Notes
Mary Van Lom was born in DePere, Wisconsin, September, 1874, and moved to Butler County, Nebraska, with her parents shortly thereafter and grew up in Center Township. She married Barney Eiting in 1898, in St. Francis Church, the Catholic church their parents helped to build. They raised four children: Helen, Oda, Gerald and Margaret. Mary died in 1940.
