Historical Notes
The Elkhorn and Missouri Valley Railroad reached Brainard in 1887 when a line was being constructed between Fremont and Superior, Nebraska. This line was taken over by the Chicago & Northwestern in the early 1900s and continued in operation until 1962. The depot, similar in style to the Union Pacific depot, was dismantled in 1972.
