The father is wearing a mustache, a dark 3-piece suit, white shirt and dark knotted tie. He is seated in the wooden chair with one arm resting on a cloth-draped table, holding an open magazine with the other hand, a watch chain attached to his vest. The mother is seated across the table in an ornately-carved wooden chair wearing a floor-length, long-sleeve dress with stand collar and contrasting button trim on the bodice and cuffs. She is holding an open magazine in her lap. The three girls are dressed in knee-length white dresses with wide-ruffle trim, black leggings and high-top shoes. They are in front of a painted backdrop featuring palm tree and ferns. |

Historical Notes |
Charles C. Fulmer was born in Iowa, July 13, 1860. He came to Nebraska at 34 years of age and farmed north of David City for 17 years. He moved to David City in 1913 and operated a fuel store until 1920. He married Ellen Lawson in Rising City, January 30, 1895. Charles was an active member of the Methodist Church and served as a city councilman for three terms. He died April 2, 1941 and is buried in the David City Cemetery. Ellen Lawson Fulmer was born in Illinois, September 27, 1869. She came to Butler County, Nebraska, at a young age and settled with her parents on a farm near Rising City. Ellen was a charter member of the Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War. Charles and Ellen had three daughters: Jane, Ruth and Hazel. Jane was born January 15, 1896, near David City. She graduated from David City High School in 1914 and married Dale Wert, October 14, 1914. They moved to Colorado for eight years and then to California. They had one daughter, Helen. Jane died June 25, 1931, in California. She is buried in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Whittier, California. Ruth Fulmer was born near David City, October 16, 1897. She married James A. Allen. Ruth died November 1975, in Michigan. Hazel Fulmer was born July 1899. She graduated from David City High School in 1917 and attended Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, Nebraska. She worked as a school teacher and lived in Lincoln. |
