Historical Notes
P.N. Meysenburg was born in Sandweiler, Luxemburg. After his mother's death, he came to the United States with memers of his family in 1863. He settled in Cascade, Iowa, where he married Barbara Dehner. They lived in Topeka, Kansas, for a short time before venturing northward until they reached the Platte River valley. P.N. purchased 160 acres, five miles east of Bellwood, for $2.50 per acre (which was double the normal asking price because it was located close to the railroad line). In the spring of 1870, P.N. built a sod house for his family. Their supplies were purchased in Schuyler and ferried across the Platte River. When P. N. died in 1923, he was President of the Central Nebraska National Bank, which he helped organize.
