This black and white photograph of the personnel of the Immanuel Deaconess Institute was taken in approximately 1935. The back of the print indicates the photograph was originally taken to introduce 175 of the 218 employees and students at the Institute in the 45th annual report, published in 1936. The men and women in this large group are either sitting or standing in several rows on a sloped lawn along a street in front of the south side of the Immanuel Home for the Aged, which was located on the campus of the Immanuel Deaconess Institute. The three story, brick, u-shaped building has windows uniformly spaced on all three exterior walls. "IMMANUEL HOME FOR THE AGED" is engraved in stone above the double doors of the entrance. Another engraved message higher above the doors, along the top of the building, reads "CAST ME NOT OFF IN TIME OF OLD AGE - P.71" which refers to Psalm 71:9. Many of the women are wearing deaconess or nursing uniforms. Many of the men are wearing suits and ties. Several men in the front row are holding fedora hats. One leafless deciduous tree can be seen on the left side of photo, and a few leafless branches from another deciduous tree are showing in the far right side of the photo.
