A four-story brick building with a large front porch stands surrounded by a grass lawn in this 5-1/4" x 3-1/4" black and white photograph. The building has a light colored brick foundation, some ornate brick work around some of the windows, and a covered front porch with a white railing. Historical Notes
South Hall was built in 1890-91. Although intended to be the women's residence hall, it originally housed both male and female English-speaking students, with women on the first and second floors and men on the third and fourth floors. After 1911 it was primarily a women's residence hall until about 1920, when it was converted to a men's residence hall permanently. It was slated for demolition in 1953 when it burned down.
