The imposing structure of the post office building at 15th and Dodge Streets in Omaha, Nebraska, can be seen in this black and white photograph. The four-story stone building is draped with black cloth to signify mourning. Four chimneys rise from the roof of the building. Horses hitched to carriages stand on the streets outside the post office. There are some people in the streets as well. Other buildings that can be seen in the photograph include the combination store in Creighton Block, located at 1511 Dodge Street, and Edholm & Erickson Jewelers, located at 101 S. 15th Street.
Construction on the post office took place from 1870 to 1874. The building was used as a post office until 1898, and it was razed in 1930. Source: Spencer, Jeffrey. Historic Photos of Omaha. Nashville: Turner Publishing, 2007, p. 49.
