The Omaha Community Playhouse put on its first production of “A Christmas Carol” in 1976. The Charles Dickens novella was adapted for the stage by Charles Jones, one of the Playhouse’s directors. For thirty years, from 1976 to 2005, the character of Scrooge was played by Dick Boyd. Boyd played Scrooge more than 800 times and never missed a performance. His record is closely rivaled by those of Robert Snipp (the Ghost of Christmas Present), Marianne Young (first Mrs. Cratchit, later Mrs. Fezziwig), Julie Huff (the Ghost of Christmas Past), and Al DiMauro (Jacob Marley), all of whom appeared in the play for twenty years or more.
