This image shows the interior of the ground floor billiard room at Westfield Acres, the residence of Frank and Jessie Fowler, located at 1217 North Nye Avenue in Fremont, Nebraska. The room's central feature is the massive billiard table with its carved, curving sides and netted pockets with tassels. Several side chairs, most likely oak, and a cue stand complete the furnishings. A billiard ball rack is mounted on the wall and wooden score counters are strung on wire near the ceiling. Carpet runners cover the wood floor around the outside perimeter of the billiard table. The runners are mitered at the corners to create the right angled turns. The walls have oak paneling at chair rail height with wallpaper above. Exposed steam pipes passing through the room are painted a dark color to match the room's cast iron steam heat radiators. Incandescent lighting is provided by a four sided ceiling fixture with slag glass panels and corresponding wall sconces.
The 16-acre property at 1217 Nye Avenue in Fremont, Nebraska, was purchased by Frank Fowler from Edward Blewett in 1903. The former Blewett residence was drastically remodeled into a 32-room mansion, while the surrounding grounds were transformed to include the stable, a poultry house, and a gardener's residence. The architect secured for the major building project was Alfred C. Clas of Ferry and Clas, architects of the 1893 World's Fair. The estate was razed in 1958.
