Object Description

Description	1958 Aerial Plat Book of Omaha, Nebraska, photos taken April, 1958, published by Miller Photo Lab, scale (1 inch = 200 feet) on photos, and consisting of a front cover, title page, and index page and 239 pages (44 x 55 cm.). Information from title page indicates the lithos were by Modern Litho. and plats were courtesy of Standard Blue Print. The Miller Photo Lab reference number is JA 0337. The Index shows street names and the dividing range and township lines which occur every six miles to create townships consisting of 36 Sections. Section numbers are shown in hexagons. The smaller numbers surrounding the hexagons are the page numbers for this book. Each page has an aerial photo of the specific area accompanied by a corresponding plat map and the geographic location by section, township, range. In the lower right corner is the Section, Township and Range location and beneath is the page number indicated on the index. The pages are in fragile condition, many repaired with tape or laminated. There are several pages that are missing or do not exist listed on the index, including: 7, 17, 32-35, 83, 153, 182, 197, 203, 220, 223, 227, 231, 233, 235-250, 257, 260-267, 272, 275-294, 297-364.

Historical Notes	These images were scanned by the Gerald R. Ford Conservation Center, Omaha, Nebraska, from 4 x 5 inch color transparencies taken by Larry Ferguson Studio, Omaha, Nebraska." "The Miller Photo Lab was established in 1947 by J. (James) Gordon Miller. Miller was born in Omaha October 21, 1915 and graduated from Omaha South High School. He worked as a darkroom assistant in Whittier, California, and during World War II was trained as an Army photographer in the Signal Corps. The Lab provided aerial, industrial, agricultural, livestock and ranching photographic services to local individuals, business, organizations, and government agencies. He closed Miller Photo Lab in the late 1980s and moved his family to the Corvallis-McMinnville, Oregon area. He enrolled in Oregon State University and earned a degree in Botany. He photographed and cataloged wild flowers, and, before his death on April 28, 2003, he donated his entire flora collection of thousands of colored slides to the Botany Department at Oregon State.
